About the masterclass

Content and programme

Together we will work through the key techniques of Dr John Upledger, broaden your understanding of them and go deeper into the practice of blending under Lisa’s guidance.

As a bonus, Lisa shares a chiropractic technique she uses for working with the spine.

The masterclass will be useful both to those who are just starting out and to advanced practitioners.

How Lisa teaches you to read the system

For her, blending is not a metaphor but a skill with clear reference points. The therapist reads the feedback of the craniosacral system through four signs: symmetry, amplitude, quality and rate. To that she adds work with the meningeal membranes and with the body’s own self-correcting movements, so that the hand follows the tissue rather than a sequence of steps.

The key techniques of Dr John Upledger remain the foundation: participants know his basic therapeutic protocol and will rely on it. But the point of these three days is different — to move from mechanically following the steps to listening while they happen.

Author

Who Lisa Upledger is

Lisa Upledger — D.C., CST-D, USA. A doctor of chiropractic and a craniosacral therapist certified at Diplomate level (CST-D), the highest level of certification in the Upledger Institute system. She was the wife and colleague of John Upledger, D.O., who created craniosacral therapy. She worked beside him in the years when the method was taking shape as a whole system, and she has been teaching it for decades.

At the Upledger Institute Lisa served as a member of the board of directors, executive co-director and clinical director of the Healthplex clinic, a certified examiner for CST techniques and for diplomate certification, and an author and developer of curricula. In 2014 she founded the Upledger Center for Integrative Therapy in Florida, where she continues John Upledger’s work and teaches nine classes she wrote herself. They are accredited as continuing professional education: Lisa is an NCBTMB-approved provider and approved by the Florida Board of Massage Therapy.

Today Lisa runs a practice in Jupiter, Florida, combining craniosacral therapy with chiropractic and medical acupuncture. Her way of teaching is recognisable: less protocol, more listening through the hands.

The method

What craniosacral therapy is

Craniosacral therapy, or CST, is a set of gentle manual techniques for working with the body. At its centre is the craniosacral system: the bones of the skull, the dura mater, the sacrum and the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid. The touch is very light, and the work is built not around correcting something but around giving the body room for its own reorganisation.

The method was developed by John Upledger, D.O., in the 1970s and 1980s, building on research into the rhythmic mobility of the membranes around the brain. Since then craniosacral therapy has entered the practice of osteopaths, bodywork therapists, physiotherapists and psychologists who work with the body.

Who it is for

Who this masterclass is for

The masterclass is open to craniosacral therapists of any level of training — from those who have just completed the first levels to practitioners with many years behind them. For beginners it is a chance to see the basic techniques performed by someone who stood at the origins of the method; for experienced therapists, a chance to unpick what your hands already do automatically.

It will also be of interest to practitioners in related disciplines who work with the body: osteopaths, bodyworkers and manual therapists, kinesiologists, massage therapists and psychologists with a body-oriented practice.

Training

Craniosacral therapy training: where this masterclass sits

Training in craniosacral therapy is organised in levels: CST 1 and CST 2, SomatoEmotional Release, advanced courses and specialised topics, and above them the CST-T and CST-D certifications with their examinations and practice requirements. That is a long road, and it runs through the Institute’s own programme.

A masterclass is not a level of that road and does not replace one. It is three days with a person who stood at the origins of the method: a review of the key techniques, deeper work on blending, and a chance to rebuild what your hands have started doing mechanically. It does not grant credit for a level — and we say so plainly, so that you know exactly what you are signing up for.

How the levels are arranged, what the CST-T and CST-D certifications require and how much practice they ask for — in our article The Upledger method: how craniosacral therapy works (in Russian).

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience in craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapists of any level of training are welcome — from those who have completed the first levels to practitioners with many years’ experience. For beginners the masterclass is a chance to see the basic techniques performed by their author; for experienced therapists, a way out of mechanically following the protocol.

What if I work with the body but do not practise craniosacral therapy?

Write to the school administrator before paying: the school decides on participation, and it is better to settle this in advance than to be disappointed on the day.

What is the blending Lisa teaches?

Blending is touch with intention: the ability of the hand to be so fine and responsive that it assesses the state of the tissue and works with it at the same time. Lisa calls it the distinguishing feature of craniosacral therapy and its very essence. She teaches you to read the system’s feedback through four signs: symmetry, amplitude, quality and rate.

Where and when does it take place?

Moscow, 4, 5 and 6 December 2026, from 14:00 to 22:00 Moscow time. The administrator confirms the exact venue when you register.

How does a masterclass differ from the Institute’s levels?

The levels are the Institute’s sequential programme leading to certification. A masterclass is a teacher’s personal view and a deepening of practice; it neither replaces a level nor grants credit for one.

How much does participation cost, and is there a certificate?

Early registration is 450 €. The deadline for the early price, the price after it, the participation certificate and the language of the masterclass are confirmed by email at 9242484@gmail.com or on WhatsApp at +7 985 924-24-84.
